Private Tour | Kui Buri elephant safari, half day
Kui Buri National Park is known to be the best place in Thailand to spot elephants and relatively good chanse to spot gaurs, and that sometimes in big herds. Gaurs are the biggest cattle species and the fourth biggest land-mammal species in the world. Other possible sightings during the tours include sambar deer, banteng and wild boar.
Due to strict regulations this half-day wildlife safari tour doesn't include any hiking activities apart from leaving the vehicle for short walks to viewing areas, we will only be allowed to do safari driving. During our tour we scan the forest edges on grassland areas known to be prime elephant habitat in hope to see mainly elephants and/or gaurs.
From 2:30 p.m. till 6 p.m.
Wildlife tours in Kui Buri National Park are strickly regulated and limited to certain hours. After a mandatory registration we will get assigned an open-air vehicle with driver and an assistant. The tour will begin by driving slowly into the reserve on the main dirt road north heading to the main grassland areas. While driving slowly, we will search for any wildlife including birds or any other other smaller as well as bigger animals. Our first stop will be a viewing area where we leave the vehicle in hope to spot wildlife, mainly elephants. We will later on continue to the next viewing area at the end of the road, best known for spotting gaurs, but also elephants and sometimes bantengs.
During the tour, your guide will give you information about the habitat, wildlife and history of the park.
The type of assigned vehicles is open-air pick-up truck driven by locals. It is the Kui Buri National Park's policy to let locals do the driving, a policy that showed to be a success in reducing the poaching in the park.

Great excursion! Our guides were ready when we arrived. They were very nice and friendly and knowledgeable. We saw elephants at several sites and they always stopped and were patient. Also saw barking deer.

We had a fantastic afternoon in Kui Buri where we saw over 40 elephants in 5 families across three locations. Our guide was excellent , not only spotting elephants that we would probably not have seen ourselves but also informing us about both the elephants and other flora and fauna in the park. Most importantly we were allowed as much time as we wanted to view the elephants. Our trip to Kui Buri was one of the highlights of our Thai holiday.

We had an unforgettably beautiful day at Kui Buri on our wildlife tour. Our guide, Khun Som, spoke great English, was charming, informative and wonderfully patient, allowing plenty of time for my elderly mother to walk slowly to the viewing spots. She paced the tour beautifully, letting it all unfold and stopping to observe, noticing and showing us things that we would not otherwise have seen, like a group of wild boar lurking in the mist as evening fell. We saw several elephants, and it was wonderful to see them in the wild and to hear Som's explanation of how the herd lives. This is the perfect way to encounter elephants in Thailand: in the wild, in an incredibly beautiful place that is properly managed to balance the interest of visitors with the needs of wildlife. I would come again in a heartbeat. (Additional tip: if you get the chance to come in the rainy season, between July and September, don't be put off - the chances of seeing elephants are even higher and you may well be the only visitors.)

Thank you for a fabulous day - we saw 3 groups of elephants totaling 17 (I think). Our guide really brought the experience to life, and her knowledge and obvious enthusiasm for her subject shone through. She knew that we should stay where we were because they would return, and they did ! Thanks.

This tour was incredible. We saw 15 elephants in total as well as great hornbills which was amazing. Our guide was very informative, helpful and friendly.
