2 days hiking in Khao Sok - Hidden jungle and waterfalls

We currently don't take any inquiries for Khao Sok packages until further notice. Please try other web sites.

Khao Sok National Park is the biggest and most popular protected site in southern Thailand, it has one of oldest evergreen rainforests in the world.

Our 2 days hiking tour in Khao Sok is a private tour, means no others will join you. The tour includes visit to a waterfall and a cave, both along the trails. Despite having a relatively good diversity of wildlife, due to fact that the forests are very dense with little visibility, chances to see wildlife is limited. Saying this, there are still some chances to see stump-tailed macaques, gibbons, deers and boars. Birds, lizards and snakes are quite common everywhere in the park, so you may see few interesting species.

This is an example itinerary, if for various reasons some trails are inaccessible, your guide may take you to different trails.

Day 1 - From 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

We will take you to Ton Kloei trail for a full day hiking. Starting from headquarters, this trail extends 7 km west partly on a dirt road. There are several waterfalls of various size and few swimming spots along the trail.

Day 2 - From 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Today's hiking will start at Bang Hman ranger station 34 km east from headquarters. This nearly 10 km long circular trail includes hiking through a 400 meter long cave where water-stream flows through it. At one point, the water depth will be around belly height, so any electronic equipment you choose to take with you must be carried carefully and at your own risk. Once you reach the other end of the cave, the trail leading back to the forest is occasionally steep.

Towards the end of this trail, if you still have some energy left, the guide may take you to a giant stone arch that has been created by wind and rain driven erosion.

If there has been heavy rain during last few days, your guide won't take you through this cave as the water levels may not allow it, in case you will be taken to other trails through the jungle.

About: Kui Buri elephant safari, half day

By: , Poland | posted Sat 17 Mar, 2018

Visiting Kui Buri National Park with our 2 kids (1 year and 3 years) was an amazing experience and definitely highlight of our holiday in Thailand. Our guide was very knowledgeable and patient with spotting animals. In fact, we believe that he was the reason why we were able to see 10 elephants and several other animals during our trip. Additionally we highly assess their flexibility. They knew that we’re family with little kids so they sugessted we can make our trip shorter as March tends to be hot and animals would probably show up only later in the afternoon. This way we saved our kids an hour waiting in the sun while still saw many animals. Our kids were crazy about this trip!

Tour operator's response

Good to hear you and your kids enjoyed the trip in Kui Buri.

About: 1.5-days wildlife tour in Khao Yai

We had 1.5 day trip and it was amazing. In the first day we saw millions of bats, really crazy. The second full day was inside the park with very nice and super professional guide that took us into the wild jungle of the National Park and knew exactly where to find all the wild life. I’ve had perfect English and we were only 4 people in the tour so it was just perfect. Thank you Jay (we called him “National Jay-ographic” 😝) and thanks for Thai National Park tours. It was really nice organized!

The trip was awesome! First, we had the best guide Ghaan. Her english was perfect, she was always on time, full of energy, well informed, helpful. She made sure that we had the best possible experience! Transport service and the driver were very good, as well as the food that we had. I was also positively impressed by the park itself. I have beet to a number of national parks in the US, India and China and Khao Yai is one of the best. I will certainly recommend the part and your firm to others. If you want more information about our experience, do not hesitate to ask :) Best regards! Audrius

Really excellent two days with Tata. He was a brilliant guide and found thinks we would never have found on our own. One of the best guides I have had and very knowledgeable and friendly. Saw lots of wildlife in two days including both types of gibbon, elephants, 4 pit vipers, hornbills (pied and great). Serpent eagle. Indo Chinese water dragon, water monitor, samba deer and lots more.

Such a great few days. Will do it again next time.

All in all it was very nice! It is a very special experience, especially when the tours are private! The booking was fairly easy and the responsibility of the staff were excellent.

But for a nationalpark that supposed to be left naturally and untouched it was pretty crowded. But this is an issue for the Nationalpark itself, less your’s.

Tour operator's response

Thank you for your feedback.

Glad to hear the trip was nice.

Indeed the park gets a lot of visitors, and that is a complicated problem. After all, you also wished to see it, just like many other people ;-) . So we are all part of this 'problem'.

Managing the amount of visitors is complicated. All visitors have their own ideas of how such a visit and area should look like, and what facilities should be provided or not for the visitors. And the park management has to try to make decisions.

At the same time, wildlife populations in Khao Yai seem to do fairly well. Not all, tigers have pretty much been extirpated, though that is partly maybe still from the time before the tourism grew. However species like elephants, deer and gibbons all seem to do fairly well in Khao Yai, often better than in other parks. It does look like a crowded park, but when looking on the map it becomes clear that it is still a relatively limited area with human disturbance. Surprising, the wildlife populations near the visitor areas seem to do maybe even better than those away from the visitor areas. The visitors also form some sort of protection. It won't be easy to go out hunting when there are many people around that could hear or see this. Often poaching is a bigger problem in parks that see far less visitors.

But obviously there are two sides of the story. As mentioned not everybody has the same idea about how to visit a park. Some just literally race to the waterfalls and back. Traffic victims especially deer and macaques but also elephants, cats, snakes and other wildlife are common. They get hit by cars that are not careful enough/ drive way too fast.

The park authorities are not equipped to fight this problem.

But all in all it is a complicated problem. We all would like to be alone in a remote place, but we can not block other people from access. Also part of the reason Khao Yai is the easiest park to see wildlife, is exactly because of the visitor number. The animals get more habituated to people and are less likely to flee.

From our extensive experience in the various larger parks in the country, none provides as consistent results when it comes to wildlife watching as Khao Yai. Surely it is not a zoo, but it is definitely one of the best options in the country.

Thank you for booking with us and enjoy your further travels. And who knows we will see you another time in one of the other parks ;-)
